Having survived an early summer tornado, Old World Wisconsin is again
fully operational and delighting visitors young and old.
The state’s award-winning outdoor museum of pioneer life near Eagle had been closed for more than a month in the aftermath of a June 21 tornado. The storm downed more than 2,000 trees on the historic site, primarily doing damage to the museum's parking area and Visitor Green. But following an extensive clean-up of the grounds and repair of some minor damage to the site, the museum’s sixty historic buildings grouped in six ethnic villages are again open and bustling with delighting visitors.
Dawn St. George, director of Old World Wisconsin, acknowledged the overwhelming outpouring of support the site received following the storm: "People have been wonderful, asking how they can help. I keep telling callers that the best way to support us is to visit us now, and visit us again soon." She laughed and added, "And tell a friend about the experience."
