Winter Sports in the Superior-Douglas County Area

Fed by one of the highest average snowfall rates in the state, the Superior/Douglas County area offers snowmobilers and ATVers more than 325 miles of groomed trails. Visitors will find trails throughout the county, along with numerous restaurants and lodging facilities. Area trails provide panoramic views on over 325 miles of groomed trails that link Douglas, Ashland and Bayfield counties.

The region's ample snow also makes it a magnet for cross-country skiers. Superior Municipal Forest, Brule River State Forest, Pattison Stat e Park, and the Solon Springs area are renowned for their abundance of perfectly groomed ski trails, while skijoring (dog-assisted cross-country skiing) is offered in the city forest.

Snowshoeing is another fast-growing winter activity, particularly on the frozen falls and snow-covered pines of Amnicon Falls and Pattison state parks.

For skiing and snowboarding, Mount du Lac offers seven runs along with picturesque views.

Ice fishing is another popular sport in Douglas County. Anglers in search of walleye, panfish or northern pike are drawn to numerous waters in the area, including Lake Nebagamon, the St. Croix Flowage and the Upper St. Croix River.
