Norskedalen

Norskedalen (which means "The Norwegian Valley") is a 400-acre nature and heritage center located near Coon Valley. Visitors to Norskedalen can enjoy the natural environment and cultural heritage of the region and tour the farms and homes of early Norwegian settlers.

Among the many historic sites located at Norskedalen is the Skumsrud Heritage Farm, a 43-acre property with 11 restored pioneer log buildings each with its own history and unique architecture. The Skumsrud log house, which was built in 1853, is considered the oldest surviving house in the Coon Valley area. Tours of the farm run daily through Aug. 31.

Norskedalen visitors can also tour the Beekum Homestead. This re-created turn-of-the century farm includes a springhouse and "summer kitchen." Tours of this 12-building historic site are available through Oct. 31.

Norskedalen offers many special events, programs and classes during the month of August. For a complete schedule of events and tour information, please contact 608/452-3424 or visit www.norskedalen.org
