Ko-Thi Dance Company

Dance to the beat of the drums and experience traditional African-American and Caribbean culture with Milwaukee’s Ko-Thi Dance Company.

The Ko-Thi Dance Company is committed to preserving and performing the dance and music rooted in African-American and Caribbean culture.

The company's spring performance piece, “Kuumba,” is held at the historic Pabst Theater in downtown Milwaukee on April 27th and 28th. A fall performance piece, “Harvest” follows in October or November. Not only do these performances feature new established works from the repertoire but they also include guest artists, choreographers, performers and companies.

Using a multitude of traditional instruments, authentic costumes, rhythmic music and extraordinary dancing, the Ko-Thi company aims to educate and bridge a gap between cultures.A year-round studio series offers classes in dance and drumming to children and adults, a children's performing ensemble and a comprehensive educational outreach program called DRUM TALK.

Students of DRUM TALK learn about the culture, languages and traditions of ancient and contemporary Africa. The program is divided into four courses: workshop residency, instrument making, performance demonstrations and choral instruction.
