Cassville was one of the first river towns established in Wisconsin, a gateway for miners and other pioneers. The town remains a crossing point, with the Cassville Car Ferry navigating the Mississippi. Wooded bluffs, park land and the broad expanse of the river provide an ideal habitat for eagles here and all along Wisconsin's "west coast." A large population of these majestic birds make the Mississippi River Valley their year-round home, creating opportunities for spectacular bird watching. From Cassville, it's a short drive south along the river to Potosi, location of one of the oldest lead mines in the state. A bit further south, in Dickeyville, is the remarkable folk art religious shrine, the Dickeyville Grotto.
