Clustered in southern Waukesha and northern Walworth Counties, these three picturesque communities flank the 22,500-acre Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Headquartered in Eagle, the forest offers 264 family campsites, swimming, mountain biking, hiking, skiing and the largest wet prairie east of the Mississippi. Eagle is also the home of Old World Wisconsin, a 600-acre “living history museum” that showcases 65 historical buildings in five ethnically themed villages.
To the south, tour the extensive trolley collection of the East Troy Electric Railroad Museum. The museum offers a ten-mile round trip from its historic depot aboard some of the last trolleys of the original Milwaukee metro line. To the west, Whitewater is home to a campus of the University of Wisconsin system. In summer, the city’s Minneiska Water Ski Club hosts shows Saturday evenings on lovely Whitewater Lake.
