The City of Mauston graces the banks of the Lemonweir River in south-central Wisconsin. It’s the county seat of Juneau County. The historically inclined will want to visit the city’s Boorman House. Built in 1875, it is the home of the Juneau County Historical Society. Four miles west of town, stop at Burr Oaks Winery for a taste of the grape and a tour of their art gallery.
Reedsburg lies twenty miles south of Mauston in Sauk County. The city is one terminus of the 400 State Trail, a 22-mile former railbed trail that follows the meandering Baraboo River to Elroy. Eleven bridges, five trail towns, and its connection to the Hillsboro, Elroy-Sparta and Omaha bike trails make the “400” a popular choice.
