Park Falls, Phillips & Price County

With 300,000 acres of unspoiled public land, Price County holds many attractions for visitors. Park Falls in northern Price County is one of two headquarters for the 1.5 million-acre Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Two attractions in the forest highlight the area’s lumbering legacy: the Round Lake Logging Dam is typical of the dams built by loggers in the early 1900s; and the Smith Rapids Covered Bridge is a beautiful reminder of the past on the South Fork of the Flambeau River. Just to the south, Phillips displays a fascinating collection of folk art at the Wisconsin Concrete Park. This fanciful outdoor museum features dozens of concrete sculptures festooned with bits of broken glass, ceramics and stones created between 1949 and 1964 by retired lumberjack Fred Smith. In the southeastern corner of the county, stop at Timm’s Hill County Park; at 1,951.5 feet above sea level it’s the highest point in the state.
