West Bend, Hartford and Washington County

With the rolling hills of the Kettle Moraine to the north and the Milwaukee metro area to the south, Washington County is a rich blend of industry and recreation. In West Bend, The Museum of Wisconsin Art displays the exquisite paintings of German/American master Carl Von Marr. Nearby, the city’s winding Riverwalk packages 25 outdoor sculptures with gorgeous views of the Milwaukee River. West Bend is also known as the “Geocaching Capital of the Midwest,” offering more than 450 caches within a 7-mile radius. In the southern half of the county, the Wisconsin Automotive Museum in Hartford displays a rare collection of Kissel, Nash and Pierce-Arrow automobiles. Travelers from around the world visit the Shrine of Mary at Holy Hill near Hubertus; the church built high atop the hill is said to have a mysterious healing power. In the southeastern corner of the county, Germantown has preserved its “old world” heritage in the Dheinsville Historic Park.
