Wisconsin's Air, Land and Water Adventures

Looking for a summer activity slightly more adventurous than mowing the lawn or soaking your feet in the kiddle pool? Here are a few suggestions.

Hot Air Ballooning

Take part in a scenic adventure aboard a hot air balloon and get a bird's eye view of Wisconsin's landscape. Many offer daily sunrise and sunset champagne flights.

Take a flying leap at one of Wisconsin’s skydiving centers. Try a tandem jump if you’re a first-timer, or progress toward solo certification with static line and accelerated freefall programs. Skydiving destinations include Skydive Adventure, Inc. in Omro, Indianhead Sport Parachute Club in Chippewa Falls, Sky Knights Sport Parachute Club in East Troy and Wisconsin Skydiving Center in Jefferson.

Hang Gliding

Take to the air. Try a hang gliding hill-flying class or soar higher with a tandem, high-altitude hang gliding flight lesson-- both targeted at newcomers to the sport. Head to Whitewater Hang Gliding Club to test out your flying skills.

SCUBA Diving

Take a dive. Explore one of the many great shipwrecks among the Apostle Islands, including the schooner Lucerne, steamer Fedora and the colossal schooner-barge Pretoria with Roberta Sport Fishing Charters in Bayfield. Or head to Devil's Lake State Park near Baraboo to dive in crystal-clear waters with a rocky lake floor perfect for viewing a large array of freshwater fish.

Rock Climbing

Take to the hills. Wisconsin's glacial landscape provides a wonderland for rock climbers of all ability levels. Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo is a Midwestern climbing Mecca. The park's 500-foot hillsides surround the lake, providing a multitude of climbing opportunities. Interstate State Park's ancient lava rock cliffs rise more than 200 feet from the St. Croix River, creating a maze of climbing challenges.
