World Championship Snowmobile Derby (Jan 12-27)
Posted on: 12/13/2006
Visitors can celebrate winter Northwoods-style by attending the 44th running of the Eagle River World Championship Snowmobile Derby, January 12-27.
Spanning a week and a half, the "Derby" is the most recognized, most attended snowmobile event in the world. It features more than 300 professionals from as far away as Japan competing in high-speed oval and snow-cross races. Considered the sport’s signature event, the Derby Championship is one of the largest gatherings of "sledders" in the world. Join the other 30,000 spectators for snowmobile racing at its highest level, with racing and or qualifying events each day, culminating with snow-cross and high-speed oval championships.
Away from the track, visitors will find Derby carnival activities throughout town, and fans who want to pull the throttle themselves can take part in guided snowmobile tours from the track to local trails. Don't miss this annual Wisconsin tradition. For more information call the Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center at 800/359-6315 or visit www.eagleriver.org.
