Lazy rivers have a whole new meaning this summer! Tubing on the river is the perfect way to stay cool, relax or adventure the great outdoors in Wisconsin’s hot and humid summers.
Enjoy the summer scenery and native wildlife as you float down the river, or get wet and wild as you navigate the rapids. Stay for the day or even a whole week at riverside campgrounds where the whole family can be entertained. Tubing not your style? No worries, many outfitters also have canoes and kayaks available for rent.
When visiting, bring sunscreen and a towel! The summer heat is nothing to sweat when floating down these eight great Wisconsin rivers.
Namekagon River
Float through the wilderness on this river which is part of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway.
Apple River
The popular Apple River, located in Northwest Wisconsin near the Minnesota border, is close to all the action. The wild rapids satisfy the daring, while families and groups find this a fun place to cool off and relax.
Wolf River
You'll float past towering green pines as you stay cool in the clear waters of the Wolf River. In Langlade County, this river drops 430 feet over 28 miles, making it one of the fastest-flowing rivers in the Midwest. Further downstream things slow down for a lazier trip.
Wisconsin River, Manitowish River
Wildlife will be along for your trip on these rivers. Watch eagles soar overhead and loons navigate the waterways.
Black River
Leave the crowds behind and enjoy the winding Black River. Stop at a local sandbar when you’re feeling lazy and watch the river roll by.
Grant River
Timbered bluffs and rustic rock ledges. Quiet water with an occasional rush of rapids. Sounds perfect for a tubing trip! You can find this river in the Southwest corner of Wisconsin near Iowa. What are you waiting for?
Wisconsin River
Beautiful wooded shorelines with rugged rock formations are abundant on the Lower Wisconsin River. If you discover a sandbar or island it’s a great chance to take a break and sing a little “On Wisconsin.”
Sugar River
Flow gently through the forested riverbanks and rich farmlands. South of Madison near the Illinois border, the Sugar River serves up a sweet afternoon of floating down the river.
