Experience the Fox River Valley Wine Trail
Posted on: 11/9/2010
From Green Bay to Kewaunee to Greenleaf and Freedom, why not taste your way through some of Wisconsin’s very own vineyards?
There are almost 800 acres of Wisconsin-grown grapes for wines produced at 51 wineries around the state.
The Fox River Valley Wine Trail is a self-guided tour that takes you to five delicious Wisconsin wineries. Each winery on the tour offers wines made from locally grown grapes and fruit.
Let’s start in Green Bay.
At this stop, patrons can enjoy award-winning wine, cheese and truffles on the porch or in the lounge. And don’t be surprised if you get a little wine educations while you visit.
Other wines include: Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riseling and Gewurztraminer.
This stop on the tour sits along the western shore of Lake Michigan. The vineyard has been planted with cool-climate grape varietals that were specially created to survive a cold Wisconsin winter.
To date, Parallel’s award-winning wines come from the 5,000 vines they’ve planted.
The folks here compete consistently in National and International Wine competitions. With more than 30 years of winemaking experience, Trout Springs Winery is the oldest commercial vineyard in Northeastern Wisconsin and the first winery in Brown County.
Visitors to this stop enjoy wine in the tasting room or patio overlooking the vineyard. They also enjoy homemade delicacies that pair perfectly with the outstanding wines.
Trout Springs Winery is the only place in the state that combines their winery with a game farm, plant nursery and Class A Trout Hatchery.
This spot is nestled along the Fox River Recreational Trail at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment.
Each Thursday, live music is performed at the vineyard setting the perfect scene for a romantic night out or a gathering with friends. Wines here are paired with artisan cheese, European style bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Apple Wine, Blueberry Cherry Wine, Lemon Wine and even Pineapple Wine can all be found in the Kerrigan Brothers cellar. They’ve even taken the traditional Wisconsin Old Fashioned and added some cherry wine to it. Perhaps it’s the start of a new tradition! This entry was posted in Things to Do
