There’s nothing like the rush of discovering a treasure except, perhaps, the fun of the search. Antique shopping in Wisconsin is sure to fill the quest for both. From historic heirlooms to funky “junque,” you’ll uncover plenty of antiques and collectibles among the state’s mom-and-pop shops, dealer malls and flea markets. Whether you’re looking for a vintage metal Leinenkugel’s sign or a 1940s figurine, the state’s antiques are worthy of exploration.
Hayward Lakes Area
While the Hayward area is known for its lumberjack lore, fishing hall of fame, and Northwoods lake culture, it also boasts a number of antiques shops, junque stores, and the like. Red Shed Antiques and Antiquity Square Antiques Mall are two favorites, but there are scores of others. Nearby Stone Lake offers eight stores itself; several more in Spooner and Cable make the trip worthwhile and always yield great finds.

Located just off Highway 151 between Beaver Dam and Madison, Columbus Antique Mall is the state’s largest antique mall with 222 dealers in 82,000 square feet. Open 362 days a year, if this mall doesn’t have it, it likely can’t be found. [ANW1] Several other dealer malls and two Antiques Shoppes of Columbus – Mall Annex and Kurth Mansion – are not to be missed.

Madison is mad for the past with some of the best eclectic collectible shopping in the state. Three Orange Doors is a cool vintage shop with a mix of vintage furniture, collectibles, and contemporary local art, while Area 51 Vintage Interiors will satisfy a craving for mid-century modern décor and furnishings with a blast from the atomic past. Several malls, including Maple Bluff Antique Mall, Antiques Malls of Madison and Westside Antiques Mall, plus numerous independent shops, make the capital city a collector’s destination.

The Fox Valley is home to a large number of quality antique stores and malls. In business for 18 years, Appleton’s Fox Valley Antique Mall boasts 165 dealers in two buildings covering 30,000 square feet. A unique offering here is Crescent Moon Antiques & Salvage, which specializes in architectural antique salvage material provided for reuse in building restoration, new home construction, and decorative arts. Thanks to this antique niche, Crescent Moon is featured in Public Enemies, the Johnny Depp movie largely shot in Wisconsin. Crescent Moon provided antique door handles, latrines, doors, and more for the set.
