Winter sports enthusiasts ski into spring at Granite Peak's Avalanche Days.
Those who can't get enough time on the slopes can take advantage of late-season skiing and snowboarding during Avalanche Days, March 22 - April 4, 2010, at Granite Peak Ski Area in Wausau's Rib Mountain State Park. The 10-day spring celebration includes ski races, half-pipe snowboarding competitions, discounts on lift tickets, free beginner lessons, fireworks, food and live entertainment.
Part of a recent major renovation at Granite Peak, a state-of-the-art snowmaking system now guarantees a five-month skiing season that extends into spring. The facility has 21 new trails on the mountain's west side for a total of 72 runs and a vertical drop of 700 feet, making Granite Peak Wisconsin's largest ski area and one of the Midwest's top places to ski. Granite Peak also offers visitors a new chairlift, new food-service chalet, new skiing school facility and new rental equipment. Future plans call for resort lodging on the mountain.
