With a nip in the air and the scent of fall on the breeze, Wisconsin’s craft breweries are busy preparing the tastes of the season. With undertones of pumpkin, apples, cinnamon and cranberries, these brews are well worth sampling. We’ve gathered some tasting notes on fall’s seasonal beers below. Get them while you can because these tasty treats come in short supply!
Brewery: Capital Brewery
Described as “the mother of all seasonal beers”, this Oktoberfest has a beautiful amber color and a rich, malty flavor. Perfect for sipping around the fire!
Brewery: Sand Creek Brewing Co.
Beer: Cranberry Special Ale
Style: German Ale
Brewed in the heart of cranberry country, this seasonal German ale is made with real Wisconsin cranberries. The taste has a well-balanced, refreshingly tart finish.
Brewery: Lakefront Brewery
Beer: Pumpkin Lager
Style: Sweet Pumpkin Lager
This recipe has history. Lakefront Brewery owner, Russ Klisch, stumbled across a pumpkin beer recipe that was once brewed by Thomas Jefferson and just had to make his own. Flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves balanced with caramel and Munich malts make this a tasty fall treat.

This Oktoberfest has a light hop aroma and a substantial malt body. It pairs perfectly with German fair like rich sausages, pretzels, and creamy soups.

Style: Bavarian Octoberfest
This 100% natural brew features Midwest barleys, fresh yeast from Germany, clear Wisconsin water, and over 1,100lbs of malted barley in each batch making it “Wisconsin’s Real Red”.
Winery: Aeppeltreow Winery
Cider: Sparrow Spiced Cider
Style: Semi-Dry, Smooth
This bubbly, aromatic hard cider is made with Red Delicious, Cortland, McIntosh and Greenings apples and flavored with mace, cinnamons, and more. Quantities may be limited, but not to worry, there are plenty of other hard ciders to choose from!
Brewery: Stevens Point Brewery
Beer: Point Oktoberfest
Style: Marzen Lager
This brew is similar in taste to those originally brewed for Germany’s first Oktoberfest, using Hallertauer Hops and sweet Vienna roasted malts. Perfect for celebrating the season.
Style: German Lager
This barley filled beer has a deep amber hue and a smooth drinkable finish. Pair it with smoked gouda and spaetzles and your mouth will thank you.
