Fan Favorites: 10 Vegetarian Restaurants in Wisconsin
Last Updated: 9/4/2015
When we wanted to write about the best vegetarian restaurants in the state, we took to Facebook and asked our fans for their favorites. They came through with flying colors, giving us a ton of delicious and nutritious suggestions from restaurants all over the state. Here are some of the top spots for meat-free meals:
The Raw Deal in Menomonie is proof that eating healthful foods is everything but boring. It sprouted up in the summer of 2006 and only uses the freshest, highest quality organic and local ingredients, and prides itself in being a socially and eco-conscious business.
The restaurant also features monthly art shows and a Learners’ Lounge Lecture Series, so your mind can be fueled right along with your body. And in case you’re not sold yet, they also brew their own seasonal beers.
Emy J’s Café in Stevens Point uses locally produced ingredients to create a unique menu, and utilizes solar power to offset energy usage. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, the menu is packed with vegetarian options like Greek Goddess scrambled eggs and pesto portabella sandwiches. There are some meat options, but tofu can be substituted for no extra charge.
Emy J’s Café also is the perfect place to get a cup of organic, fair-trade coffee with friends, or enjoy some Wisconsin-made ice cream. Sip a fresh fruit smoothie with locally produced honey to satisfy that sweet treat craving.
Café Manna in Brookfield is one of the first completely vegetarian restaurants to hit southeastern Wisconsin. The menu is loaded with delicious dishes like French-style pizza and Jamaican Jerk lentil burgers.
Everything about this restaurant is eco-friendly, from the building materials to the carryout containers, plus it supports organic and sustainable farming practices.
The Green Owl Cafe in Madison was voted “Favorite New Restaurant 2010” in the Isthmus Readers Poll! The restaurant teams up with local food vendors to ensure their ingredients are handled with care for the best tasting dishes.
The restaurant is fully vegetarian and mostly vegan, with a pastry chef making a special new dessert every week.
Cheeze Factory Restaurant. A landmark located in Wisconsin Dells, this crowd favorite offers freshly prepared vegan dishes, a fully stocked bakery, a cappuccino and espresso bar. With so many gluten-free and vegan options, saving room for dessert can be a challenge, but the Cashew Dream Cheezecake makes it a challenge worth taking.
