Crossing the finish line of any race is always an exhilarating feeling. And now is the perfect time to start training for the many marathons, triathlons and other exciting races Wisconsin has to offer. So whether you like to run, bike, walk or paddle – there is a race that is sure to bring out the competitor in you. If you’re going for the gold, here are our recommendations.
Eau Claire Marathon – Eau Claire (May 4, 2014)
As one of the only spring marathons in Western Wisconsin, this race has a little something for everyone – no matter your speed. Challenge yourself to the full 26.2 mile course, a 13.1 mile half marathon, a four-person 26.2 mile team relay or the 5K run/walk. Online registration closes on April 27th at 11:59 p.m.
Madison Marathon – Madison (May 24 - May 25, 2014)
Lace up your running or walking shoes for Memorial Day weekend. This half marathon takes you on an adventure through the historic streets of downtown Madison. And if you’re more of a night owl, there is a 10K twilight run that starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday night. But be sure to get your glow on, the best-illuminated runners will be awarded special prizes.
Lake Mills Triathlon – Lake Mills (June 1, 2014)
If you like to bike, run, and swim and are up for a good challenge – give the Lake Mills Triathlon a try. This competition kicks off of the 2014 Wisconsin Triathlon Series and is ideal for beginning triathletes just starting to get their feet wet.
Running Green for Crossroads - Sturgeon Bay (June 21, 2014)
Over the creek and through the woods racers gather for friendly competition as they raise awareness and support for Crossroads at Big Creek Environmental Learning Center. Participate in the 2K walk/run, the 5k or 10k run and enjoy a grand finish with locally-produced refreshments including homemade vanilla ice cream, Door County cherries and delicious granola.
Paddle & Portage Canoe Race - Madison (July 19, 2014)
Paddle, portage and paddle again to the finish line. Complete with crazy costumes, a post-race party in Olin Park and an awards ceremony – this is a race the whole family is sure to enjoy.
Race the Lake - Fond Du Lac (August 17, 2014)
There’s no getting around it – or is there? This bike race takes you 90 miles around Lake Winnebago and toward a possible cash prize of $10,000. For participating in the race, cyclists receive biking gear, a medal and a delicious post-race spaghetti dinner. All levels of cyclists are welcome.
Seeley Lions Club Pre-Fat Bike Race - Hayward (August 23, 2014)
This mountain bike race has a wide range of events including the 25 mile Expert-Fat, 15 Mile Sport-Fat, 10 Mile Citizen-Fat and the Kid's Lion Cub Race. So if your family is looking for a fun challenge, pack up the bikes and head to Hayward.
