Posted on: 10/11/2012
The rustling leaves. The crisp wind. The harvest festivals! Fall is a favorite for Wisconsinites and visitors alike. Like summer, there’s always something going on… just this season, it’s set against the gorgeous backdrop of the changing fall colors.
We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite fall festivals happening this month. Whether you’re looking for apple bobbing, polka dancing, or chili eating, you’re bound to find it in Wisconsin this autumn.
October 13 & 14:
Three Lakes Pumpkin Fest – October 13 – Tempt your taste buds with homemade soups, chili, fresh cinnamon rolls and fruits of the harvest while you browse the works of over 100 artists and crafters at this indoor and outdoor market.
Jack O’Lantern Festival – October 13 – This Spooner festival is overflowing with family fun. Enjoy a craft fair, baking contest and farmers market and keep the kids busy with pumpkin rolling, pumpkin painting, inflatables and a children’s tent.
Chili Fest – October 13 – Do you make a mean, meaty, fire-filled chili? Or a veggie-packed, sweet and saucy bowl? If you think your recipe is the best, then prove it at Racine Zoo’s Chili Fest! (Or, if you’re like the rest of us, go for the samples.)
Evansville Oktoberfest – October 13 – This one’s for the beer lovers, with more than 80 different brews from more than 20 breweries around the world, many from Midwest craft breweries. You’ll receive a checklist to track your favorites and a snazzy souvenir tasting glass. You won’t go hungry with local restaurants and caterers presenting their own Oktoberfest dishes. It’s all included with admission!
Cedarburg Oktoberfest – October 13-14 – This is the real deal. We’re talking wife carrying contests, beer bucket races, sauerkraut eating contests, a German spelling bee, world-class outhouse racing, a large-scale sheepshead tournament and prizes for best male and female attire. Of course there will also be German music, dancing, and delicious cuisine.
Barktoberfest – October 14 – Have a howling good time at this Cambridge canine festival in the park. See dog sport demonstrations and participate in costume and trick contests. Don’t have a pooch of your own? Vendors and rescue groups will be in attendance with adoptable dogs! Don’t miss “Yappy Hour” from 3 to 5pm.
October 18 - 21:
Isthmus Food & Wine Festival – October 19-20 – This new festival focuses on local food and dining, with adventurous chefs, bartenders and wine experts on hand to share their secrets and samples. Indulge in the finest food made right here in Wisconsin, as well as wines from across the world.
4th Annual Flyway Film Festival – October 18-21 – Watch more than 30 independent films during this three-day event in Stockholm along the beautiful shores of Lake Pepin. Share your own films or be inspired by the creativity of others. Come early for the Kickoff Gala with food and live music or enjoy a panel discussion and workshop.
Madeline Island Fall Festival – October 20 – Say goodbye to the mainland and celebrate local art and fall color on Madeline Island. Partake in pumpkin activities and enjoy art displays and demonstrations along an endless coastline.
7th Annual Elkhorn Oktoberfest – October 20 – Just how much fun can you pack into one festival? Start with a classic car show, crafters, food vendors, and a chili cook-off. Then add a wine and beer tasting tent, live entertainment, and kids’ activities. Last year even featured America’s Got Talent top 10 finalists. We can’t wait to see what Elkhorn has in store this year!
