The 21 islands and 12 miles of mainland that make up the Apostle Islands host a uniqueblend of cultural and natural resources. With 8 historic towers on 6 different islands, the area is home to more lighthouses than any other National Park Service. The islands are also a haven for bird watching. They provide a nesting habitat for more than 150 bird species and serve as a rest stop for more than 250 more during spring and fall migrations.
