Road Trip: Hudson Is Home to History, Hiking and Golf
Last Updated: 7/1/2013
Look at this picture. No, really, look at it. See the water crashing down. Hear the rushing of the rapids. Feel the droplets sprinkle on your skin. Okay. Now that you can picture yourself there, let’s talk about a city with some serious road trip potential.
Just a stone’s throw from the Minnesota border, you’ll find the city of Hudson. Set along the sparkling St. Croix River, it’s a bustling center for recreation with boating, golfing, historic sites and delicious eateries.
Book an early tee time at one of several public courses in the area, including Bristol Ridge, Hudson Golf Club or the White Eagle Golf Club. If your idea of green is a little more untamed, take a hike around Willow River State Park and chill out by Willow Falls. Sweet serenity!
You’ll also want to take advantage of Hudson’s vibrant artist community. Check out contemporary crafts and sculpture at Seasons on St. Croix Gallery, located on the lively Second Street, or stop by an exhibition at Phipps Center for the Arts, which boasts a 243-seat theater. To get a sense of the town’s past, take a historical walking tour – you’ll find brochures for self-guided tours at the Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce. The Octagon House is a can’t-miss local attraction. Built in 1855, the house is filled with antiques from the period. Its lush grounds include a garden and carriage house.
If sightseeing’s left you exhausted, head to the Apple River in nearby Somerset, rent a tube at the popular Float-Rite Park, and feel your troubles float away as you do the same. Enjoy, everyone, and as always, let us know if you go!This entry was posted in Tours and tagged Attractions
