Tour (and Taste!) Wisconsin's Craft Brews
Last Updated: 12/16/2013
Ale. Lager. Stout. Pilsner. Wisconsinites love a frothy brew. Why wouldn’t we, we’ve been brewing it well since the 1800s! But don’t take our word for it, experience it yourself on a tour of Wisconsin’s craft breweries. Don’t worry about taking notes, just enjoy the sights and tastes.
Here are two breweries to tour to get you started:
New Glarus Brewery: Located roughly 30 minutes outside of Madison, New Glarus is the brewer of numerous award-winning beers including Spotted Cow. Free, self-guided tours are available but if you want something more in-depth, their new “Hard Hat” tour is available on Fridays at 1 p.m. The tour takes you behind the scenes of the old brewery and the new brewery. Sample six to eight beers afterwards. If you’re from out-of-state, stock up. New Glarus beers are only available in Wisconsin.
Lakefront Brewery: Located in downtown Milwaukee, Lakefront has been keeping beer lovers happy for more than 24 years. Tours are available Monday thru Saturday with Friday and Saturday being the busiest days. Make sure to try Organic ESB, one of the few beers in the world to use only 100 percent organic hops and grains. And if you go on a Friday, definitely stick around for the Friday Night Fish Fry. You won’t be disappointed.
Need more options? Whether you’re in northern or southern Wisconsin, taste some of the most highly regarded beers in the world on this craft brewery itinerary.
