The renowned naturalist John Muir grew up in Marquette County. Much of the landscape and wilderness that inspired the young lad from Scotland is still here for visitors to enjoy today. Begin at John Muir Park and walk the Ice Age Trail around the lake where Muir learned to swim. Climb to the top of Observatory Hill used by Native Americans and then early settlers as both a landmark as well as a place to enjoy the surrounding beauty. Canoe the Fox River, fish bountiful lakes like Buffalo and Puckaway, and bike quiet back roads.
