La Pointe is located on Madeline Island, one of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. Visitors can travel to the island by way of a ferry boat from Bayfield, Wisconsin or the island airport. The Madeline Island Ferry crosses the bay on a 3-mile trip to Madeline Island.
