Hudson & St. Croix County

At Hudson, the St. Croix River broadens and its waters serve as a sparkling backdrop to one of the loveliest towns on the river. Hudson is both a center for recreation, with boating, fishing and swimming available, and a historic site with picturesque Victorian houses and parks. The center of the town's historic residential district is Octagon House, built in 1855 and now a museum.

Just north of Hudson, tiny Somerset trumpets its reputation as the "Tubing Capitol of the World." A lazy float down the Apple River is a delightful part of any summer vacation. To the east, New Richmond preserves its history at a Heritage Center on a beautiful and historic farmstead replete with eleven miles of hiking trails and native plantings. Twenty miles east of Hudson near Baldwin, tour the Silver Bison Ranch where you can see more than 150 plains buffalo.

DESTINATIONS

Hudson, Osceola, and St. Croix Falls

I like to visit Hudson during the height of summer, when I can dip my weary hiker's feet into the cooling current of the river. I return in autumn, when its avenues of maples blind my eyes. But there's something extra-special about my winter visits, too.
