American Masterpieces - Fred Smith's Wisconsin Concrete Park

June 7, 2008

Phillips

In 1948, Fred Smith began construction of what is known today as the “Wisconsin Concrete Park.” Smith created some two-hundred figures chronicling Northwoods ways, legends, and creatures. His array of life-size and larger-thanlife- size characters in Phillips is considered to be one of America’s most extraordinary displays of vernacular art and is cared for by Price County and the Friends of Fred Smith.
