In 1948, Fred Smith began construction of what
is known today as the “Wisconsin Concrete
Park.” Smith created some two-hundred figures
chronicling Northwoods ways, legends, and
creatures. His array of life-size and larger-thanlife-
size characters in Phillips is considered to be
one of America’s most extraordinary displays of
vernacular art and is cared for by Price County and
the Friends of Fred Smith. Join us June 7 for the
American Masterpieces event.
