Capitol Steps
August 24, 2008
Fish Creek
The Capitol Steps were founded in 1981 when a group of United States Senate staffers set out to satirize the very people who employed them! Ignoring conventional wisdom that suggested “not quitting their day jobs,” the former staffers took their humor to the next level, writing and performing musical parodies and skits in an effort to raise political awareness. A majority of Capitol Steps’ cast members have worked on Capitol Hill--some for Republicans, some for Democrats, and some who painfully sit the fence—and gained an intimate knowledge of the political system. But in the end, it is left to the audience to decide where they sit or stand on political issues. In the past 27 years Capitol Steps recorded an equal number of albums, appeared on all of the major television networks, and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio
