Olbrich Gardens: Children of the Rainforest

February 18, 2012

Madison

The Milwaukee-based Hale O Malo Polynesian dancers return to Olbrich. You know something important is about to begin when the traditional conch shell is blown to open the show. Be enchanted by the movement and rhythms of live dancers, drummers, and musicians from the islands of Hawaii, Somoa, Fiji, Tonga, Tahiti, and New Zealand. Listen to the colorful sounds of traditional Polynesian instruments like the tuetti drums and ukulele. If you’re feeling brave, test your skills by dancing to the “huki lau” hula dance, or try the “haka” male warrior dance from New Zealand. After the performance, take a stroll and enjoy the warmth of Madison’s own tropics, the Bolz Conservatory. Tickets for Children of the Rainforest are $3 for adults and $2 for children ages 3 to 12. Children ages 2 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door before each performance. Website www.olbrich.org Details Address
