Then and Again: A Sign Project by Nicolas Lampert

December 5, 2009 - May 9, 2010

Madison

Organized by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Then and Again is a public project by Milwaukee artist Nicolas Lampert. The exhibition involves actual-size aluminum road signs created by the artist with statements inspired by activist movements, for example “DON’T MOURN, ORGANIZE” and “FIGHT THE POWER.” Other signs commemorate progressive institutions from Madison’s past, including the Whole Earth Learning Center, O’Cayz Corral, Club de Wash, and Mifflin Street Coop. These reminders of underlying contemporary socio-political issues, as well as the city’s colorful past, will be installed in Madison’s vibrant downtown, as well as residential and commercial neighborhoods throughout the city. Lampert is known for his politically based works, which attempt to raise awareness through historically inspired graphic sensibilities. Website www.mmoca.org Details Address
