Winner of the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble, New York's Vanguard Jazz Orchestra began life as the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1966 and has performed continuously ever since. Throughout, it has included a group of all-star musicians renowned for their originality and virtuosic skills. For the past 45 years, the orchestra has been playing every Monday night at The Village Vanguard, described by All About Jazz as "THE premier jazz club in history."
