Emery Blagdon:The Healing Machine (Exhibition)
The powerful lightning storms of the Great Plains were a source of wonder for Emery Blagdon (1907-1986). He believed lightning and other natural energies held the power to heal, and in 1955, he set about making The Healing Machine to channel these forces. Blagdon adjusted and added to his "machine" every day for the next thirty years. Sufferers of pain or illness were invited in to let the unseen forces work magic. This exhibition presents individual components as well as an installation evoking the original shed environment. The entire Healing Machine was donated to the Arts Center's collection by Kohler Foundation, Inc.
