Antique & Vintage F u n... &... F u n n y... R e b u s... P u z z l e s... Exhibit ~~~~Rebus puzzles, phrases and stories written with letters, numbers, words and pictures combined in a “code-like” form; have been around for hundreds of years. A private collection of funny, “punny,” and odd rebuses from the 1800’s to modern day; is fascinating to see, and try to solve. A giant rebus message is also displayed in the front window having to do with Burlington and a cold winter, for all to read.~~~~ Humor and puns are common elements in a rebus, but some have serious messages. To read it, one must first “solve the puzzle!” A well-known, very simple example is a picture of an eye, then a heart, and then the letter “U” resulting in the message “I Love You!”~~~ The exhibit showcases a variety of elaborate and simple rebus messages from a postcard that talks of love using pictures of 11 different vegetables to a chart of girl’s and boy’s names from 1916. There are antique holiday cards, vintage Valentine rebus cards, Victorian era dating cards, and post cards from 1905; all begging to be solved. At one time it was even popular for national companies to offer rebus puzzles in their ads. The exhibit displays a soap company ad from 1891 that offered $1,000 in prizes. The Rebus Puzzles Exhibit intrigues children and adults alike, ages 5-105. Tour groups may schedule a time of their choice and combine a visit to the hands-on section of the Logic Puzzle Museum at the same time. “C U @ this 2"
