Finnish Independence Day Celebration


Enjoy a celebration dinner at this 21st annual events hosted by the Knox Creek Heritage Center including Mojakka [a Finnish beef stew] that is cooked outdoors in an iron kettle over a wood fire, homemade multi-grain bread, and creamy rice with fruit sauce is served family style. The homemade bread and cardamom braid is also available for sale. Enjoy a program following the meal which consists of a brief explanation of the importance of the event in Finnish history and the lighting of candles to commemorate Finland's independence from Russia in 1917, plus a presentation about the history of the areas settlers. Sponsored by the Knox Creek Heritage Center, an affiliate of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. All proceeds are used to maintain this historical site which includes buildings over 100 years old.
