America‘s breezy, soft melodies and sweet harmonies epitomized the sound of soft rock in the 70s and 80s. They had several Top Ten hits, including the number ones “A Horse with No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair.” Vocalists/guitarists Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley met while they were still in high school in the late 60s. They won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist of 1972. Other America Top 40 hits of the 70s and 80s include “Tin Man,” “Lonely People,” “You Can Do Magic,” “Ventura Highway,” “I Need You” and “The Border.” Decades later the band is still touring and still delivering the songs of a generation.
