Alt-country singer/songwriter Jason Isbell is making a big name for himself penning heart-wrenchingly beautiful songs with poignant topics ranging from the standards of love & loss to the even more intimate – cancer and addiction. Isbell, formerly of Southern rock cult-favorites The Drive-By Truckers, is a standard bearer for the lyrically-rich folk/country songwriting tradition of Steve Earle and John Prine. His flocks of diehard fans are even more devoted than ever, thanks to Southeastern, a recent album filled with eloquent stories that obliquely allude to the singer’s well-publicized struggles with alcoholism. He made many “BEST OF” lists last year including being voted the No. 4 Best Album, the No. 1 Male Vocalist, and the No. 3 Best Songwriter, by Nashville Scene’s 14th Annual Country Music Critics’ Poll.
