This acclaimed singer-songwriter’s spare, gripping brand of folk leaves audiences almost hypnotized. Originally from Whitewater, Wisconsin, Foucault is a longtime disciple of the rich and strange music that sings behind the American veil. During a decade of mining the darker seams of country and blues to produce a string of elemental albums of rare power, Foucault has garnered accolades across the United States and beyond. His tersely elegant brand of songwriting is set apart by its haunting imagery and weather-beaten cool. While studying history at UW-Madison, Foucault began performing on the local coffee house circuit. Inspired by artists such as Greg Brown, John Prine and Chris Smither, he immersed himself in the roots music of his country, releasing an impressive debut album in 2001. Miles from the Lightning won much praise from critics, particularly for its narrative drive. The success of the album helped kick-start a career of tours across the United States, Canada, and Europe. While on tour, Foucault has played with such artists as Greg Brown, Gillian Welch, Todd Snider, Chris Smither, and Rosanne Cash. With his latest album, Horse Latitudes, the native Wisconsinite shows a poet’s soul ever deepening, a musical style ever more polished, and a talent ever growing. jeffreyfoucault.com
