Pert Near Sandstone, Cornmeal & Tin Can Gin
While New First Night opens the 2014 season, the party really doesn’t get going until the break-neck bluegrass bands start to jam on Saturday night. This tradition started with Yonder Mountain String Band and was continued with Trampled by Turtles breaking all attendance records. This year one of our favorite “jam-grass” bands, Minnesota roots group Pert Near Sandstone returns to the Big Top to help launch the summer. New to the Big Top stage is Cornmeal, a roots and bluegrass jam-band from Chicago, who is taking the festival scene by storm. Cornmeal is heavily influenced by American roots and folk music and seamlessly blends lightning fast tempos and impeccable harmonies into an unrivaled live performance. These two groups have played nationally at some of the most renowned festivals in the country: Telluride, Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, All Good Music Festival… and the list goes on and on.
