Real Vocal String Quartet

Stoughton

Four sets of vocal cords, four sets of strings—this is not your typical string quartet. Weaving together the crystalline beauty of their voices with the elegance of classical stringed instruments, the ladies of Real Vocal String Quartet have mastered a unique and captivating sound. This chamber ensemble with choral flair bursts from the eclectic, musically sophisticated base of the San Francisco Bay Area. RVSQ began with violinist Irene Sazer’s inspiration to combine her musical passions: chamber music, improvising, composing, and singing. With violinist Alisa Rose (from Wisconsin), violist Dina Maccabee, and cellist Jessica Ivry, Sazer’s vision sparked the creation of a truly collaborative ensemble that freely mixes and ultimately transcends genres. RVSQ’s repertoire embraces the diverse influences of all four players, including classical, jazz, rock, and styles from West Africa, Brazil, and rural America. Yet while four distinct voices can be heard, in their seven years of performing together, the ladies have achieved a true group sound: their shimmering harmonies dazzle like sun through the rain. rvsq.com
