Mink River Meander
The River Alliance and The Nature Conservancy join forces to explore and discover the Mink River in beautiful Ellison Bay. We'll fuel up with coffee and pastries at Grandma's Swedish Bakery at Rowley's Bay Resort. From there we'll travel to the trail head. As we walk from the upland hardwood forest down to the lowland forest near the river and back, we'll discuss a myriad of issues related to the area – the ecological impact of the peninsula's history (including logging), river hydrology, groundwater conditions, migratory bird issues, invasive species, the effect of long term lake levels and short term weather patterns, and so on. The hike is about 1 ½ miles round trip and will last about 3 hours. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. This will be a great time of year for birding, so bring your binoculars! Lodging is available at Rowley's Bay Resort. Please contact them directly at 920-854-2385 and let them know you're with the River Alliance/The Nature Conservancy group.
