    Francois Vertefeuille House

A walking tour of Prairie du Chien's historic buildings. Meet at Fort Crawford Museum. Rivertown Reliques will be a tour of three houses that were in existence at the time of the War of 1812, an archaeological dig on another house of the time period, and a tour of the Prairie du Chien battlefield. There is no other place in Wisconsin that has four houses dating from this time period. And all four houses are built in the style of architecture called "piece sur piece", This is a method of construction employed by the French-Canadians who began permanent settlement at Prairie du Chien in the 1770s. Three of the houses have never been open to the public and probably never will be again.
