Tour the Farms Day
May 10, 2014Brodhead
Featuring four farms. The tour provides an opportunity to see how a working farm functions and produces, and highlights farms that employ organic and/or sustainable practices. The following farms are hosting this year's event: Opal-icious Honey, located at the Ten Eyck Apple Orchard, is making their debut on the tour. Visit the "Honey House," where "The Best Honey on the Planet" is extracted and the beeswax is processed into lip balm and other handmade products, all from hundreds of thousands of bees that pollinate the apple trees at the Orchard. Sugar Maple Emu Farm, owned by Mike and Joylene Reavis, features emu pen tours, emu meat tasting, decorating of emu eggs and other emu products. Check out their website at www.sugarmapleemu.com. Scotch Hill Farm, owned by Dela and Tony Ends, is a certified organic farm and a subscription farm (CSA). It features goats, vegetable gardens and hand-made soap. More details can be found at www.scotchhillfarm.com. Children petting lambs at farm Kinkoona Farm, owned and operated by Suellen Thompson-Link and her children, raises several breeds of exotic sheep, sells lamb and several organic wool bedding products, and is a wonder of sustainability and environmental friendliness.
