Crops in the fields are being harvested. In the forest many trees have already lost their leaves. There is an occasional yellow or brown spot of color. Hiking thru the woods you can hear the crunching sound under your feet. Formations of geese are flying overhead. Lots of farmers have roadside stands of pumpkins for your holiday decorating. All the signs that fall is here! Enjoy the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive, 115 miles, traveling through the Northern & Southern Units of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Forest headquarters, west of Eagle, has a $5 informative booklet to enhance your drive. REMINDER: In the fall many state forest areas are open to hunting, if you plan on hiking, forest users are always encouraged to wear bright colors or blaze orange when in the forest.

Well it is probably safe to say the fall colors in Middleton are at their peak... finally and beautifully! As Stanley Horowitz said "Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all." -
Come said the wind to
the leaves one day,
Come o're the meadows
and we will play.
Put on your dresses
scarlet and gold,
For summer is gone
and the days grow cold.
