Historic Point Basse

Experience the only living history site on the Wisconsin River. Historic Point Basse preserves the 1850s site. Located at the south end of the extensive rapids of the Wisconsin River in what are now Portage and Wood Counties, Robert Wakely's settlement at Point Basse was the head of the navigable Wisconsin River. See the restored Wakely house, trading post, blacksmith shop, and 1900s schoolhouse. Call for tours.

From I-39 take State Hwy. 73 toward Nekoosa. Turn Left on County Hwy Z to Wakely Road (.6 mile). Turn right on Wakely Road and follow signs.
