The name "Menominee" comes from the Ojibwe name manoominii, meaning "wild rice people."

Details

This center celebrates the Ojibwe culture with a four seasons diorama depicting the harvesting practices of the Woodland Indian. Other exhibits include a 24-foot dugout canoe, birch bark canoes, basketry, beadwork, tradtional clothing, an interactive French fur trading post, and a world record sturgeon taken from one of the many lakes in Lac du Flambeau. The museum offers group tours, on-site presentations, year-round workshops, videos, and one of the midwest's finest gift shops.
