Wisconsin has 7,446 streams and rivers. End to end, they’d stretch 26,767 miles, more than enough to circle the globe at the equator.

Historic Point Basse

Details

Experience the only living history site on the Wisconsin River. Historic Point Basse preserves the 1850s site. Located at the south end of the extensive rapids of the Wisconsin River in what are now Portage and Wood Counties, Robert Wakely's settlement at Point Basse was the head of the navigable Wisconsin River. See the restored Wakely house, trading post, blacksmith shop, and 1900s schoolhouse. Call for tours.
