The Hixon House (1859), listed on the National Register of Historic Places is owned by the La Crosse Historical Society. This Italianate-style residence built for lumber baron Gideon Hixon, offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the Victorian lifestyle. The house contains one of the few remaining "Turkish Nooks" in the country, a space designed to evoke an oriental atmosphere. Beautiful woodwork, original furnishings and charming gardens make the tour a truly enjoyable experience for young and old a like.
