Lower Wisconsin River

Details

The Lower Wisconsin River flows more than 300 miles across the state from Merrill to the river's junction with the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chien. Known as "the nation's hardest working river," it has many power dams and reservoirs - more than ten between Merrill and Prairie du Sac. Canoeing is especially popular along the lower stretch with beautiful scenery and numerous islands. The southern 92 miles of the river below Prairie du Sac is attractive for family outings as there are no dams to portage. Access and canoe rentals are available at many towns along the way.
