Madison Opera is a non-profit performing arts organization. Founded in 1961, the Opera is considered to be an important regional company in the U.S., producing three operas annually, a free operatic event in the summer, and a host of educational and community programs. Under the leadership of General Director Kathryn Smith (2011) and Artistic Director John DeMain (1994), Madison Opera has attained new artistic heights while reaching its largest audience ever as a resident organization of the Overture Center for the Arts. The mission of Madison Opera is to engage, inspire, and enrich Greater Madison and the State of Wisconsin through the performance of world-class, professional opera.
