Pulpwood Stacker

Details

Designed and constructed in 1911-12, the Stacker represented the switch from the storage of pulpwood in water log booms to massive piles on land. The Stacker ceased operations in 1971, a victim of obsolescence brought on by modern hydraulics and an economic slump in the paper industry. Cornell is preserving the Stacker, the only wood stacker of its kind in the world, as a memorial to America's lumber industry and Cornell's heritage.
