Upper Baraboo River

Details

Paddle the Upper Baraboo River, beginning in Union Center, through wetlands, bald eagle nesting areas and sandstone rock outcrops. In Wonewoc, just under the Juneau County Hwy FF bridge, the village park offers a concrete landing for kayaks and canoes and a covered shelter for picnicking. A local outfitter has rentals and offers a combination canoe/bike trip using the State 400 Bike Trail, paralleling the river. Easy paddling with a few small rapids, the Baraboo continues over 100 miles to Portage with access at many towns along the route. Portaging around fallen trees may be required.
